TaleYou

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

TaleYou makes personalized storybooks: you tell us about your child, and we write and illustrate a story where your child is the hero. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who helps us, and the choices you have.

What we collect

  • About your child: their first name or nickname, their age, the pronouns you pick for the story, how they look (skin tone, hair and glasses), the adventure you choose, any details you add (like a pet's name or a favorite color) and the dedication, if you write one.
  • A photo, only if you upload one. It's optional. We use the photo only to draw your child, and we delete it as soon as the cover is ready, or within 7 days if the story is not finished.
  • About you: your email address, so we can send you the story, the book and reminders about it.
  • The story and the book: the text and the illustrations we create, including the drawing of your child.
  • Payment: you pay on a checkout page run by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe tells us whether the payment went through and how much was paid. If you use a coupon or a referral code, we keep it with your order.
  • Your visit: like most websites, we receive your IP address, your browser and device type, the pages you visit and the ad or link that brought you here, through cookies and similar tools (see “Analytics and advertising” below).

How we use it

  • to write and illustrate your child's book, and to deliver it on screen and by email;
  • to email you about your story: the book itself, reminders if you haven't finished it, and a note about our referral offer after your book is ready (every reminder has a link to stop them);
  • to take your payment and handle refunds;
  • to understand how the site is used, fix problems and improve it;
  • to measure and improve our ads.

We never use your child's information for advertising, and we never send it to Meta.

Who helps us

These companies help us run TaleYou:

  • Vercel hosts the site and runs its servers. Like any web host, it receives your IP address and browser information with each request.
  • Neon hosts our database: your stories, your orders and your email address.
  • Cloudflare R2 stores files: the photo until we delete it, and your book's illustrations and PDFs.
  • Trigger.dev runs our background jobs, which write and illustrate the book and send scheduled emails.
  • OpenAI writes the story and draws the illustrations. It receives what you tell us about your child and, if you upload one, the photo.
  • Resend sends our emails. It receives your email address and each email's content, which can include your child's name and the book's cover. The email that delivers your book also carries the finished book, as two PDF attachments.
  • Stripe processes payments on its own checkout page. It receives your order number, the amount, your email address and the product name (“TaleYou personalized storybook”), plus the card details you enter there. It never receives your child's information.
  • PostHog is our own site analytics: it counts the pages you view and the steps you take (with your child's age and the adventure you pick, never their name or photo, and never your email address), and it receives our error reports and server logs.
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) measures our ads, through the Meta Pixel in your browser and matching events from our server: the pages you view, the steps you take toward a book (like starting a story, seeing its cover or buying it) and the amount paid, your IP address and browser, Meta's cookies, and a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email address. You can turn this off (see “Your privacy choices” below).

Analytics and advertising

PostHog stays on for every visitor, because it's our own analytics: we use it only to understand and improve TaleYou, and we don't share it with advertisers. We don't record your sessions (no screen recordings or session replays).

We use these cookies and similar tools:

  • a cookie that keeps your story on this browser, so you can come back to it (30 days);
  • a cookie that remembers your privacy choice (180 days);
  • PostHog's cookies, for our analytics;
  • Meta's cookies, unless you opt out or your browser sends Global Privacy Control.

Your privacy choices

We don't sell your personal information for money. But sending information about your visit to Meta for advertising counts as “selling” or “sharing” personal information under California law and some other states' laws. You can opt out on our Your Privacy Choices page.

We honor Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends this signal, we treat it as an opt-out automatically. Opting out turns off the Meta Pixel and our server's Meta events for that browser. PostHog stays on. Our site doesn't respond to the older “Do Not Track” setting.

How long we keep it

We keep your stories and books so you can open them again from your links and download your book whenever you like. We delete the photo as soon as the cover is ready, or within 7 days if the story is not finished. If you'd like us to delete a story, a book or your email address, email support@taleyou.app and we'll delete them. We may keep a record of a payment (its date, amount and order number) when the law requires it.

Children's privacy

TaleYou is a service for parents, not for children: we collect nothing directly from children. The parent or guardian who creates a book tells us about their child and confirms that we may use that information, and the photo if they upload one, to create the book. If you believe a child sent us information directly, email support@taleyou.app and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including California and other US states with privacy laws, you have the right to access the personal information we have about you, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, including for targeted advertising.

To use these rights, email support@taleyou.app from the address you used with TaleYou. We may ask you to confirm the request from that address, and we'll answer within 45 days. Someone you authorize can also ask for you; we may ask them for proof. We won't treat you differently for using your rights. If we can't do what you ask, we'll tell you why, and you can appeal by replying to our answer.

Security

The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). No way of sending or storing information is completely secure.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
